Spaghetti with Homemade Meat Sauce

My Dad loves to eat pasta (a trait in which I definitely inherited), so we ate a lot of pasta and red sauce growing up. I found this homemade meat sauce written down on an index card in our kitchen and I believe it's my Mom's, and is absolutely delicious! You could also use it for a lasagna.

 Ingredients:
  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
  • 3/4 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 c. onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 2 cans tomato paste (6 oz each)
  • 13 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp dried parsley
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • Spaghetti
  • Parmesan
Directions:
  1. Set a Dutch oven on your stove over medium heat
  2. Cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is well browned
  3. Stir in tomatoes, paste, sauce, water, sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and parsley
  4. Simmer, covered, for about 90 minutes. Stir every half hour or so
  5. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti per package directions
  6. Drain, top with sauce and parmesan
Enjoy!
